Crib notes: Kiss the cook -- you know you love it that he made dinner, again

Is your man a whiz in the kitchen? Chances are, he can cook circles (and not just the frozen waffle kind) around his dad. As the Globe and Mail states, a new report put out by the University of Michigan, shows that Gen X guys are pretty handy with a skillet. Guys today cook an average of eight meals a week and grocery shop an average of once a week, light years ahead of what their own dads did. With more women working outside the home than they did a year ago, more guys are picking up the spatula and helping out. But, women are still cooking more often than guys. Single women cook an average of 10 times a week, while married women cook an average of 12. It doesn't matter whether a guy's single or not, he's still averaging eight. Who does most of the cooking in your house?

A neighborhood where kids can't play alone outside until they're 18

Aah, you just turned 18. You're legally an adult. You can vote, you can buy cigarettes (not that you would, of course), and you can finally play outside without adult supervision... Wait, what?! According to NBC-2, community rules in one Florida neighborhood ban kids under the age of 18 from being outside unless they're with a grown-up. That means no playing, no bike riding, no walking to the bus stop on your own -- even if you're in high school. Although the rules have been in effect for years, it's only been recently that the neighborhood's security team has started enforcing them. Unsurprisingly, many parents and kids aren't fans of this new state of affairs and some have described it as kids living under house arrest. The neighborhood's management said that they'd been receiving complaints about noisy kids from neighbors, which prompted the crackdown.

Baby's first rave

Babies and clubbing. One might think the two are mutually exclusive. But, one would be wrong. Whether Baby Loves Disco, or babies have no choice but to go along with a rave-themed party to celebrate their first year life, tots today are dancing and not to the Hokey Pokey. As The Stir reports, an increasing number of parents are breaking out the glow sticks and black lights to celebrate their children's milestones -- first birthdays and whatnot. While some parents think the idea of handing out "e" cookies to toddlers is hilarious, others find it to be nothing but sad and wrong. Apparently, baby raves have been all the rage across the pond for a while now, but the fad is just starting to hit stateside. At least one Pinterest board has been dedicated to planning a baby rave and pacifiers with LED lights, perfect for crib raves, can even be found on the popular site. Do you think this idea is all in good fun, or is it a sign of parents pushing their kids to grow up too fast?

Moms spend their days giving gooey kisses and hugs, at least that's what their kids think, among other things

Moms do a lot in the course of a day. We cook meals (or at least microwave them), wash dishes, do laundry, serve as the family taxi and on and on. You already know this. Dads probably know it, too. But, if someone were to ask your kids what you, as a mommy, do during the day, what would they say? One mom, writing at Babble, asked her kids what they think a mommy does in a day and some of their ideas were pretty funny. "They play in the sink with dishes," "They are on the computer making click noises," and "They like things quiet," are some of our faves. Go on, ask your kids and then tell us what they said.

Grr... Green beans

There are two things we know about baby Brynn. One, she's stinking cute. Two, she really doesn't like to eat pureed green beans. Who can blame her, really? As Jezebel showed, when she's spoon-fed that green gunk, she lets out a growl that will crack you up. We're not sure if she has a dog but she sure seems to know what she's doing.
