Ann Romney, slacker mom? Read her brilliant trick for getting 5 boys ready

Sep. 27, 2012 at 11:10 AM ET

Ann Romney may be the typical candidate’s wife on the outside; perfectly polished and coiffed. But she's hiding a secret! OK, not really a dark secret. Actually, it's a brilliant little mom secret that you may want to steal.

During a recent interview on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the mother of five offered a momfession that made me smile. Acknowledging that getting five boys up and ready for church on time is an overwhelming undertaking, Mrs. Romney shared a little trick. When her boys were younger, she would get them all dressed up in their Sunday best – on Saturday night. Yes, she had those boys sleep in their church clothes so they only had to roll out of bed and out the door in the morning.

"All dressed up, ready to go to church, woke them up in the morning, comb their hair, look pretty good to me, out the door you go," Romney told Leno.

As blogger Koa Beck notes on Mommyish, it’s refreshing and reassuring to know that even the most powerful and poised moms are not above a little slacking off now and then. No mom can do it alone, and no mom can do it without a few handy tricks to get her through.
