As summer winds down and we mentally prepare ourselves for when we'll have to trade in our shorts for sweaters (noooooo!), we can't help but fantasize about how great it would be to have one day totally free of responsibility — 24 hours of ultimate vacation, if you will.
Looking for inspiration on how we'd spend it, we went to the fun experts: Kathie Lee and Hoda. What's their idea of the perfect day off?
"Mine is, without question, the beach," Hoda said. "I don’t care where it is ... I just like the sun and the sand."
The key for Hoda's best day ever would be to have nothing on her to-do list.
"I don’t need activity — I don’t want activities," she laughed. "I want to blob out — I want to be immobile on the beach. Toes in the sand, walk out in the water — don’t get the salt water on the keratin! — come back out, get more sun, read, hang out, have a drink — that’s my perfect, perfect day off."
That sounds pretty good to us. But while Hoda would be kicking back on the beach, Kathie Lee says her perfect day would have a lot more items on the agenda.
"I would still get up every bit as early as I do," KLG said, hinting that it could be as early as 3 a.m., but is usually between 4:30 and 5 (still way too early for us). "I would spend double the amount of quiet time that I have in meditation and in prayer in the morning ... that’s my favorite time of the entire day."
After her morning coffee and quiet time, KLG said she'd blast music by one of her favorite musicians, Rob Mathes, "maybe a little bit too much for the comfort of my neighbors," before getting sporty with a "much better exercise" than normal, or a spin in her kayak.
She'd also use the time off to reconnect with loved ones, since her typical schedule can be so hectic. "I would probably call an old friend," she said, before topping off the day with some family time. "I would take a long walk with my daughter, which is one of my favorite things in the world to do ... and I would make sure I greeted the sunrise and greeted the sunset with equal enthusiasm and gratitude."
But let's not forget the most important part, something the ladies can surely agree on.
"Oh!" KLG remembered. "And then I’d have some wine."
