'Psych' stars joke about secret to show's success: 'Vodka' and a 'bit of bacon'

For eight years, Dulé Hill and James Roday have been playing characters who solve crimes despite having none of the psychic powers that supposedly help them figure out whodunnit on USA Network's "Psych." Now, as the series comes up on its final two episodes, the pair reveal that two things went into the "special sauce" that kept the show going for eight seasons.

"Vodka," joked Roday.

"That's always the key," added Hill. "And a little bit of bacon."

Despite the series' end coming up soon, the pair were all smiles during their visit to TODAY Monday, where they shared pineapple-garnished drinks (there's a pineapple in every episode) and quipped about the show's ending with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager.

The actors can afford to be lighthearted about it — they've had since September to process that the comedy-drama has ended, said Roday. "We've been hugging and crying and getting it all out of our system," he explained.

"And I don't like working with him," Hill joked.

Clearly, that's not true. In their off hours, Roday (who directed several "Psych" episodes) has been directing Hill in an independent movie called "Gravy."

And with a little luck, the show's fans, known as "Psych-Os," will check out the dark comedy when it hits theaters.

"They're not really psycho," Hill noted about "Psych" fans.

"They're actually the greatest fans in the history of television," said Roday.

"Psych" airs on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on USA Network. The series finale airs March 26.
