Love connection: Has Hoda found her dream dog at last?

Jan. 9, 2013 at 11:49 AM ET

Hoda's been on the hunt for a canine best friend for a while now. And Wednesday she seemed to have met her perfect match, cuddling a puppy during a segment with "dog whisperer" Cesar Milan.

Despite asking whether she should hold the dog like "a bag of rice" (oh, Hoda), she seemed right at home with Buffy, a shaggy little dog from the North Shore Animal League. It really looked like a love match, prompting Kathie Lee to coo to the pooch: "You love your mommy Hoda."

But Hoda's search for a dog has been a rocky road, and she may not be ready to commit. Let's take a look, shall we?

- First, Hoda was harassed by a depraved Bambino.

- Then, KLG teased her with the promise of a real puppy, only to give her a fake one.

- She caused a furry furor on Twitter when she asked followers to send her their poochie glamour shots.

- Next came KLG's puppy drop heard round the world, which was followed by the great puppy almost-drop, where Hoda claimed she did not curse on air.

That's a lot of dog trauma for one person to take (and much of it KLG-related), yet Hoda may be ready to open her heart to the right pup. Could it be Buffy? Stay tuned for any exciting developments.
