This morning, Matt Lauer interviewed with Ryan O'Neal about his life with Farrah Fawcett. Ryan spoke about the difficulties in their life together before his wife's death, and remarked that he's not over her passing.
“I was stunned by the interview…I thought he was amazingly candid,” she said. O’Neal talked about being a “bad parent,” and saying may he had “grown boring” to Farrah, his partner of nearly 30 years.
“Almost, it was raw,” said Kathie Lee. “You felt like you wanted to take him home and help him heal.”
Many of you agreed on TODAY’s Facebook page. “Sad to see the hurt in his eyes,” wrote Lorraine Carey. “He needs some help and I hope he gets it,” wrote Kelly Dobrowski. But, as Patti Toensing pointed out, “he has had a life full of issues that were largely self-created. But today it stuck me that he has finally reached a point…where he’s finally realizing all the mistakes he’s made.”
During the chat, Kathie Lee encouraged viewers who may have missed the segment to watch the interview online, and recalled a time when she saw Ryan and Farrah walking back from a tennis match on New York's Upper West Side several years ago.
"They were absolutely so flawlessly perfect, as a couple, they took your breath away," she said, noting that this morning, "My heart just ached for him."
