Goodbye, Dry Month! Highlights from Wednesday's booze-a-palooza

If you awoke Wednesday to the sounds of fireworks bursting and church bells tolling and were a little confused, fear not: It was only part of the worldwide celebration commemorating the end of Hoda and Kathie Lee's month of on-air sobriety.

The festivities began with some oversize goblets of Colby Red beneath champagne-shaped balloons and a shower of confetti. The ladies proceeded to sip cocktails throughout the segments and finished with a shot of vodka to toast the upcoming Olympics in Russia. With the exception of a semi-fumbled balloon drop, the whole show went off without a hitch.

Well, mostly. "I wrote on my Twitter page, 'The draught's over!' and someone wrote, 'Oh, you're having sex?'" said Hoda. "Twitter is awful."

The other anchors offered up some anecdotes about what it's like to live with KLG and Hoda when they're on the wagon.

"The makeup room was hell," joked Matt. "I've never seen crankier, moodier women in my entire life."

Savannah smirked, "What helped them was that that they continued to drink. Behind the set, and during commercials. I think the fact that they didn't stay sober during their month of sobriety really eased the tension around here."

Al added, "Now that their month is up, they can go back to pillaging, robbing, slashing tires… Ladies Home Journal, what were you thinking?"

"All I can say about them drinking again is hallelujah," Matt sighed.

Let's take a look back at some of the best (OK, worst) moments from the ladies' long, vino-less month.

Julieanne Smolinski is a TODAY contributor who was wondering what happened to her tires.
