A milestone birthday and menopause: Those were the reasons two women cited for why they desperately needed Ambush Makeovers.
Elyce Gall was visiting Rockefeller Plaza from San Jose, Calif., with her "older" twin sister. She turns 60 later this month and wanted a fresh look to welcome in the new decade. She also wanted to start looking as young as her big sis.
Hair styling guru Louis Licari updated Gall's hair with a modern bob that fell just below her chin. He added a “barely there strawberry” tone to her hair and gave her some bangs, which he called “better than Botox.”
Gall agreed the new style took years off her face.
“I look younger than you now!” she exclaimed to her sister after she saw herself in the mirror.
Sandra Harris, of Oakwood, Va., is only 45 but felt in desperate need of a new look to give her spirits a boost after recently going through the “change.”
“Menopause momma needs a makeover,” she wrote on a sign that helped TODAY contributor Jill Martin single her out from the Plaza crowd.
“I look old and I’m tired, so I feel like I need a new me,” she said.
Licari disagreed that Harris looked old, but he said the length of her hair was dragging her down. He cut off several inches, giving her a similar style but with more texture and an updated shape. He also softened her hair color and added highlights.
The change was enough to shock her two children, especially her daughter, Hope, who screamed in disbelief.
“Oh my God!” she said.
