Statements in response to Rossen Report on hotel locks

Statement from Onity:
Onity places the highest priority on the safety and security provided by its products.

Onity developed solutions to prevent hackers from illegally entering hotel rooms. Solutions for all affected locks have been tested and validated by independent security firms, and began shipping to hotel locations worldwide in August. All customer requests for these solutions have already been fulfilled or are in the process of being fulfilled. As of November 30, Onity has shipped solutions for 1.4 million locks. We are working to further accelerate the implementation of these solutions. 

Immediately following the hacker’s public presentation of illegal methods to break into hotel rooms, Onity engineers developed both mechanical and technical solutions to address the issue. The mechanical solution includes a cap and security screw to block physical access to the lock ports that hackers use to illegally break into hotel rooms. The mechanical solution is free to hotels. In addition, technical solutions are also available, including re-flashing or replacing lock control boards. Technical solutions vary depending on the age, model and deployment of locks at properties. Solutions have been available to hotels since August.

The safety and security of our guests is a primary concern. Every Hyatt hotel has in place a range of tailored security measures and protocols to make each hotel as safe as possible.

As soon the situation with Onity locks was publicized in late July, hotels that we manage with the affected model locks implemented various security measures to help mitigate the potential vulnerability. To maintain the integrity of these security measures, we cannot provide specific details about those steps.

Hyatt is working together with Onity, our hotel owners, and the hotel industry to ensure that Hyatt properties using Onity locks have a comprehensive solution in place.
