After big Congress win, Joe Kennedy III to wed on Dec. 1

U.S. Representative-elect to marry fellow Harvard Law student Lauren Birchfield

Sources close to the Kennedy family have told NBC News that U.S. Rep.-elect Joe Kennedy III, D-Mass., will be getting married on Saturday, Dec. 1 in Newport Beach, Calif.

Kennedy, 32, is marrying Lauren Birchfield, 28, who grew up in Southern California. Kennedy met Birchfield when they were students at Harvard Law School.

It's unclear at this point whether Birchfield's father, a Presbyterian minister, will officiate the ceremony.

Kennedy III is the son of former Congressman Joseph Kennedy II and the grandson of Robert F. Kennedy. On Nov. 6, Kennedy III won the right to represent Massachusetts' 4th Congressional District with 61 percent of the vote.

His election to Congress means a Kennedy will be serving in Washington once again. A run of 63 consecutive years of a Kennedy in elected office ended when Patrick Kennedy retired in 2010.
