Alec Baldwin: "Am I doing 'To Kill a Mockingbird?' No, I'm doing a sitcom. But we have fun, and it's a family and I live in New York and I've got a life — it's been a great harbor for me in my life."

Darn it.

Just when we thought we'd be having a lot of fun covering Alec Baldwin's New York City mayoral run, the "30 Rock" star announced he probably won't be launching a political career.

"I've lost my appetite," Baldwin said yesterday during his weekly podcast, "Here's the Thing With Alec Baldwin." "Plus the people that are running for mayor — I know this is terrible — I look at them and I don't see myself in that crowd. They're like a guy on a date that you can tell he just can't wait to get his hand up your blouse before even the lights go out in the theater. They're all just so horny for it. Horny for their own ascension. Whereas for me, I've got a job now ... I've got a good job.

"Is [it] the most creative thing in the world?" he continued. "Am I doing 'The Insider' with Michael Mann? Am I doing some edgy, like finely chiseled social drama? No. Am I doing 'To Kill a Mockingbird?' No, I'm doing a sitcom. But we have fun, and it's a family and I live in New York and I've got a life — it's been a great harbor for me in my life."

Baldwin doesn't think public office is worth it. "I give up money and fame and position and success, I give up this wonderful life I have now in exchange for the chance to really change things," he said. "Yeah, I'm not quite sure you can anymore."

Baldwin was rumored to be mulling over a run for mayor in June. "I wouldn't rule it out," Baldwin's rep, Matthew Hiltzik, told the Hollywood Reporter at the time.

But the election isn't until 2013 so Baldwin still has some time to launch a campaign.

Unless he's too busy playing Words With Friends.
