Many fans of the original "Dirty Dancing" didn't take kindly to the news that Lionsgate is planning to remake the 1987 classic.

After the studio announced the news Monday that Kenny Ortega would be directing the film, many took to Twitter to express their outrage.

"Dirty Dancing remake? Really Hollywood? There is no way to top Swayze! End of story. #uncreativehollywood,” one tweeted Tuesday.

But Jennifer Grey, who starred in the original alongside Patrick Swayze, is singing a much different tune.

"I love @Kennyortega and trust that he will do something special #DirtyDancingRemake," Grey tweeted Tuesday.

Grey goes way back with Ortega, in fact: He was the choreographer on the original.

In a statement to the Wall Street Journal, she added: “I’m so excited about this news and I think there’s nobody better to do this than my beloved Kenny Ortega, who is as responsible as anyone for the success of the first one. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do with it.”

The original film earned $214 million worldwide, spawned a bestselling soundtrack of period tunes (including a hit from Swayze) and launched the phrase "Nobody puts Baby in a corner!"

In the 24 years since its release, the film has sold more than 10 million copies on DVD. It also prompted a 2004 sequel, "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights," that failed to perform at the box office.
