BOSTON -- Sen. John Kerry says he is planning to run for a sixth term in the U.S. Senate and has begun fundraising for his 2014 campaign.

When asked, Kerry told reporters Thursday, "this is the job I want; this is the job I'm enjoying doing,"

The Democrat Senator dismissed rumors he was positioning to be appointed Secretary of State if President Barack Obama is re-elected to a second term in 2012.

Current Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has said she does not plan to stay on at the State Department for a second term. Clinton has said she is not planning a 2016 presidential bid.

Kerry was elected to the Senate in 1984 and became the senior senator for Massachusetts in 2009 after the death of fellow Democrat Sen. Ted Kennedy.
