  1. What homebuyers can get for $250,000

Each week, TODAY real estate expert Barbara Corcoran looks around the U.S. to see what homebuyers can get for their money.

This week’s search goes from high in the Rockies to the Nebraska plains in search of truly unique properties you can get the keys to for $200,000 or less.

  3. Fort Calhoun, Neb.

Fort Calhoun is about 10 miles north of Omaha on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River Valley. It’s a quiet town with a population of fewer than 1,000. This custom built home is on a pretty lot with mature landscaping. I like the unique angle of the front door and porch. It has an open floorplan and polished wood floors and trim throughout. The living room has a cozy distressed-brick, wood-burning fireplace. The casual dining area has big glass windows and a door to the back deck. The kitchen has wood cabs, an island and a clever desk space. The backyard has a deck, patio, big rolling lawn and beautiful Missouri River Valley views.

  5. Scranton, Penn.

Scranton, in northeast Pennsylvania, was once a coal mining and iron and steel manufacturing town. Today it’s known as the setting of the NBC sitcom “The Office”. This 1930 home is in the hill section, home to the University of Scranton and lots of historic architecture. It has a welcoming front porch and a dormer. The living room has wood floors, crown molding and extra wide baseboards. The dining room has wood floors, wainscoting and an adorable built-in window seat. The kitchen is fully updated with granite counters, an island and another sunny window seat with built-in storage underneath. The backyard is surrounded by mature trees and a privacy fence. But the lawn, patio and garden need some sprucing up!

  7. Duluth, Minn.

Duluth is a port city on the north shore of Lake Superior. It’s home to America’s only fresh water aquarium as well as the world’s longest freshwater sand bar, spanning six miles. This 1925 Tudor style home is well-kept outside and has lots of updates inside. There are oak hardwood floors and traditional woodwork throughout. The living room has a beautiful fireplace, built-in niches and fancy crown molding. The dining room has gently arched French doors. The windowed kitchen looks totally hip and modern with blonde wood cabs and black counters. My favorite room is the sunroom with two walls of windows! The backyard is partially fenced and just in need of a little gardening work!

  9. Green Mountain Falls, Colo.

Green mountain falls is a mountain community 20 minutes from Colorado Springs. It sits at 7,000 feet and is a popular spot for vacationers who love camping and hiking. This home backs right up to Pike National Forest and makes a great retreat from the city. It’s built to take full advantage of the mountain views. It has an open living room plan and the living room has doors to the wraparound deck. The kitchen has blonde wood cabs and new Corian counters. The master bedroom takes up the entire top living room with a vaulted, pyramid-like ceiling, skylights and a patio. There’s also a hot tub.

  11. Nashville, Tenn.

This 1950s ranch home is less than 5 min from Nashville’s big attractions like the Grand Ole Opry, the Opry Mills and local golf courses. It sits on over an acre-and-a-half of land and feels secluded, but is just five miles from downtown! The interior has been completely remodeled for an open, airy and very modern feel. The open living room and dining room have gleaming hickory wood floors and lead out to a huge screened in porch. The family room is flanked with windows and has a built-in wet bar. The open kitchen has granite counters and dark wood cabs and a breakfast bar. The finished basement has a master bedroom with wood-burning fireplace and private bath, a rec room and living room/laundry room. The big backyard has an unusual horseshoe-shaped deck and a fire pit. All you can see out here is luscious greenery for miles!
