For a show that people like to poke fun at, "American Idol" sure hasn't had much trouble finding cool guest stars.

From recording icons like Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Dolly Parton to au courant trendsetters like Gwen Stefani, Quentin Tarantino and Russell Brand, a veritable who's who of showbiz folk have paraded through the studio, whether to perform or just to give the contestants a little advice.

Well, guess who just showed up to give advice (and maybe boss the top seven around a little bit)?

Oh, just Bruce Springsteen, that's all.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer visited the set Friday to lend his considerable expertise to Casey Abrams, Lauren Alaina, Jacob Lusk, James Durbin, Stefano Langone, Haley Reinhart and Scotty McCreery—and we'll just go ahead and assume that they were blown away.

"Holy pride of New Jersey....BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN in the studio right now listening to the idols sing!!!!" read a tweet posted to the show's official account.

Springsteen's just full of surprises these days!

In September, a New Jersey couple happened to spy the star while they were posing for engagement pictures near the beach, and Springsteen took the groom-to-be's guitar and provided an impromptu soundtrack for the rest of the photo shoot.

Then in November, he performed and sat down for a lengthy interview on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon." Perhaps best of all, however, The Boss also joined Fallon's "Neil Young" for a heartfelt rendition of "Whip My Hair."
