L.A. police search Charlie Sheen's home for firearms

Los Angeles police searched for firearms at the Sherman Oaks, Calif., home of actor Charlie Sheen on Thursday night.

The fired "Two and a Half Men" actor first tweeted "#fastball: all good here on homefront. all reports are false. I'll explain more very soon. #Dogspeed c", when police arrived.

Later he tweeted, "#fastball; the LAPD were AWESOME. Absolute pros! they can protect and serve this Warlock anytime!!! c."

TMZ said the search was launched after Sheen threatened to harm himself with a firearm.

Officer Norma Eisenman confirmed the police presence to KNBC.

LAPD officers were making sure Sheen was abiding by a restraining order obtained by ex-wife Brooke Mueller that prohibits him from possessing weapons, Eisenman said.

It has come to LAPD's attention that there are firearms registered in Sheen's name, she said.

If Sheen is found to be in violation of the restraining order, and firearms are found, it's up to the officers on site to decide what happens next, she said.

'A very big house'
They could simply remove the firearms or arrest Sheen, Eisenman said.

The search was initiated around 8 p.m. PT. It would take time because "it's a very big house," she said.

TMZ said a source inside the house said Sheen, his lawyers and several friends were at the dining room table eating hamburgers.

LAPD told NBC News late Thursday that it had completed the investigation, describing Sheen as very cooperative.

Police said Sheen had not been taken into custody or arrested and added that they would  not be releasing any findings.

Also Thursday, Sheen and Mueller reached an agreement that settles any custody issues and will end her pursuit of a lengthy restraining order.

Attorneys for Sheen and Brooke Mueller issued a statement Thursday night saying the pair had "reached an agreement that resolves their differences." The statement said the details of the arrangement were being kept confidential for the benefit of their twin sons.

Mueller obtained a temporary restraining order against Sheen earlier this month, claiming he threatened her on a recent trip to the Bahamas. A hearing had been scheduled for March 22.
