L.A. to Vegas for $9 ... going, going, gone?

In celebration of its new route flying from Los Angeles to Vegas, stunt-savvy Spirit Airlines is offering a $9 fare each way from La-La-land to Sin City. Taxes and fees quickly ratchet that price up to $39 round trip, but it's still less than what you'll lose to the slots — or pay if you want to bring a carry-on bag.

That's right. Carry on. If you pack a bag that needs to go in the overhead, be prepared to pay a $30 fee if you pay in advance on-line, or $45 at the gate. Bags that fit under the seat are free.

How much do you need to bring to Vegas anyway (besides your wallet)? And returning? Well, remember that what happens in Vegas ... stays in Vegas.

The super-duper fares are valid for travel between May 10 to June 15 (Graduation celebration? Early Father's Day?), but not available for May 24-25, 31 or June 1.

The airline that bills itself as the low-price leader and Ultra Low Cost Carrier was first in flight to charge for everything from snacks to more comfortable seats. With gas prices on the ground hitting new altitudes of their own, Spirit Air is making standing in line for a security screening look a lot more appealing.

At this rate, you could fly to Los Angeles from elsewhere, catch a flight to Vegas and probably still save money. If you can score a seat. Tick tock, get those fingers flying fast if you want to be dealt in on this offer.
