Favorite book: My favorite book is "Flush" by Carl Hiaasen. I like how two kids, Noah and Abbey, take on a huge task of saving the waters of the Florida Keys. They are determined to stop the illegal dumping of raw sewage into the ocean. Can they do it?  I like the environmental message in the book.

Favorite character: My favorite book character is Annabeth Chase from the "Percy Jackson" series. She is brave, smart, and funny — all qualities I admire! She usually helps save the day!

Hobbies: I love musical theater and Broadway! I especially enjoy performing in community theater. I also like ballet, cross country running, tennis, surfing and reading.

Future plans: When I grow up I would like to be an architect and a choreographer.

Name: Michael Vazquez

Age: 10

Hometown: Brooklyn, N.Y.

Favorite subject: My favorite subject in school is computers — I love to research new information. One time I was working with PowerPoint and I found out a lot of information while researching. In addition to that I love to read, because I love to find and discover new things when I am with my book.

Favorite book: My favorite book is "Sabotaged" from "The Missing" series by Margaret Peterson Haddix. I like this book because when I first began reading book one, "Found," I just loved all the mystery and adventure in this book. The author practically absorbed me from the beginning. It was what I liked and I am waiting for the next book to come out.

Favorite character: One of my favorite book characters is Harry Potter. I have read the first three books in the series, but I would still love to finish the rest. One thing in particular that I liked about Harry is his passion for Hogwarts (A magic campus that Harry Potter currently attends) and his obsession with magic. He has a great personality which is positive and seems very friendly to his friends, but still cares about his education.

Hobbies: Some of the things I like to do on my free time are reading (chapter books and comics), playing the piano, surfing the web on the Internet and of course doing test prep and homework.

Future plans: When I grow up, I would love to work with technology, specifically research and design for companies such as Google and Apple. Another possibility career would be to become a doctor.

Favorite subject in school: My favorite subject in school is talent. I go to a school where we have subjects called talents. When you try out for my school, you pick two talents to try out for. Then, you take two separate tests for each one. The talent you get a higher score in is the one you're accepted into the school for. We have art, athletics, computer/mathematics, creative writing, dance, theater, instrumental strings, instrumental winds, media, science and vocals. I am in Creative Writing talent.

Favorite book: My favorite books come from the "Dear Dumb Diary" series by Jim Benton. Even though Jim Benton is a grown man, he is excellent at making a hilarious series which shows the things a normal middle-school girl goes through.

Favorite character: My favorite book character is Jamie Kelly from the "Dear Dumb Diary" series because I feel like she is very relatable and would be similar to me if I was writing a diary about my middle-school life.

Hobbies: I enjoy reading and I like to write sometimes in my free time. I adore the arts — singing, dancing, acting — all of it. Travel is also fun because learning about different cultures is a unique experience I love to have. My favorite out-door game is “Capture the Flag”, and my favorite board game is “Clue” because I love mysteries and logic problem solving.

Future plans: I am still contemplating what i would like to be when I grow up. Right now, I am considering a performer (singing, acting, dancing), a writer, a lawyer, and/or a teen fashion magazine editor.
