Losing nine pounds in just one week wasn’t enough to keep Ana Alvarado in the competition on “The Biggest Loser: Couples.” Outside of the weight-loss challenge, a drop like that would be considered a huge accomplishment, but alongside competitors with week 1 losses as high as 41 pounds, Alvarado’s smaller success meant an early exit for her and no more in-game partner for her daughter.

“It was very difficult (being the first one voted off),” the 50-year-old confessed during an interview Tuesday on TODAY. “I felt like I didn’t learn enough. The group of people I was with were wonderful. It felt like a family. We were all helping and supporting each other, but I felt like I wasn’t there long enough. But I think what was hardest for me was feeling like I let my daughter down.”

At least Alvarado’s daughter and former orange team partner, Irene, remains in the game for now. As for the mother’s short stay on the ranch, evidently she learned more than she thought she did. She’s now lost a total of 55 pounds.

“It was a great experience,” the eliminated contestant explained. “It’s motivated me to go out and work at my own pace and at home — just to keep going, eating healthy, measuring food. It’s really no secret. It’s just making changes.”

Alvarado’s daughter and the 20 other players still in the game face the scales again Tuesday night as the second week of the “Couples” competition airs on NBC at 8 p.m. ET.
