Vice President Joe Biden repeatedly told a group of 3rd-grade students that Barack Obama was "really cool" during a surprise visit to an after-school program in California, NBC News reported.

Most of the children at Taft Community School in Redwood City wanted to know all about Obama and his wife, Michelle, and one asked if the president would also be making an appearance, the station said.

"Barack Obama is really cool. No, he's not coming today, but he's really cool," Biden replied, according to NBC News.

He also described Michelle Obama as "the nicest person you'll ever meet."

The vice president asked the children questions about where they wanted to go to college and one girl proudly proclaimed, "Stanford University," NBC News said. Biden replied: "You're way ahead of where I was."

He also told the class about his wife being a teacher and his struggle with stuttering when he was younger.

Biden joked with the press that he "never wanted to be vice president," blaming Senator Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., for persuading him, NBC News reported. The senator was also at the event.

The after-school program at the school serves about 100 kids ranging from kindergartners through fifth graders.

The kids enrolled receive help with their homework and participate in art, gardening and other enrichment activities.
