Britney Spears' marriage lasted all of 55 hours.

In spite of being married for only 55 hours, singer Britney Spears says she believes in the “sanctity of marriage.”

Spears appeared by phone on MTV’s “Total Request Live” today to promote her new video, “Toxic.”

Spears says while she believes in marriage, she was in Las Vegas and things got out of hand. She says the city took her over.

Spears and childhood friend Jason Alexander were married in a wedding chapel in Las Vegas early Jan. 3. They had it annulled after two days.

When asked about the media frenzy, Spears points out, “We landed on Mars that day -- why aren’t they talking about that?”

She says she and Alexander “hit it off completely” -- but when asked if she had feelings for him, she just said that was a personal question.
