There are rumors "Idol" has booted judge Kara DioGuardi, but a source tells E! Online that she tried to quit two months ago.

Kara DioGuardi is done with "American Idol."

But that doesn't mean she was fired...

While Ms. DioGuardi still hasn't heard from Fox about the upcoming season, I'm told she's actually been wanting off the show for a while now.

"She went to Fox two months ago and told them she didn't want to do another season," a source tells me. "She's ready to move on. She did two years and thinks that's enough."

Big problem right now for DioGuardi is she's probably still contractually obligated to do the show if Fox tells her to. "It's frustrating because she can't even take any meetings...everyone wants to know what her schedule will be like, but she doesn't know," the source said. "What happens if Fox tells her they still want her for next season?"

DioGuardi's rep did not immediately comment. A Fox rep declined to comment.

So what happened when DioGuardi told Fox that she wanted out? "They said they'd get back to her," the source said.

Fortunately, DioGuardi hasn't been holding her breath.

Discuss: Will you miss Kara if she leaves "Idol"?

Some felt she was awkward her first season, and others think she found the right balance in 2009. But was she a good judge?
