Video: Is Oksana trying to extort Mel Gibson?

  1. Transcript of: Is Oksana trying to extort Mel Gibson?

    COURTNEY HAZLETT reporting: Good morning.

MORALES: So a lot of questions about the authenticity of this, including some statements made by her dentist at the time who said that it appeared the photos that were circulating online had been doctored, which now apparently he regrets that he said that.

    HAZLETT: Right.

MORALES: So what's the story on all of this?

HAZLETT: I mean, you would think if there's anyone here who knows whether those are authentic photos or not, it would be her dentist.

    MORALES: Right.

HAZLETT: And so very curious that he would say that. And then...

MORALES: He said that the nose and the facial features didn't match up.

HAZLETT: Right, that it didn't all match up. So very curious that he'd say that. Oksana 's rep, of course, is saying, no, they're definitely the real thing here.

    MORALES: Mm-hmm.

HAZLETT: This is -- this is evidence that's being submitted as part of the police investigation into the domestic violence dispute. The end of the day , everybody who's following this story needs to keep in mind that there's a business for RadarOnline and the other outlets as well, and what I mean to say is...

    MORALES: Mm-hmm.

HAZLETT: ...that with this story, which is so owned by RadarOnline ...

    MORALES: With those audiotapes.

HAZLETT: ...now with those audiotapes that just dribbled out over the course of almost two weeks, with this photo now, Radar owns this story. So it's up to everyone else to find that expert who will refute the story in some way.

    MORALES: It's very interesting.

HAZLETT: So that they can keep it going.

MORALES: So the TMZs of the world are now finding their own experts.

    HAZLETT: Right.

MORALES: OK. So, I mean, in the end, though, those photos, whether doctored or not, could they be used, though, in presenting the case and pressing charges, possibly, against Mel Gibson ?

HAZLETT: It's very possible that they could be used against Mel Gibson . Is it the sort of thing that's going to land him in jail? Probably not, say most legal experts. What it could do, though, is tarnish his reputation to the point where he's not bankable in Hollywood , and that's what Hollywood cares about most here. Not as a -- it's not necessarily what your rap sheet looks like.

    MORALES: Mm-hmm.

HAZLETT: We've already proven that people like Robert Downey Jr. can have a huge comeback. It all comes back to whether or not you're a bankable star . And for Mel Gibson , right now that question is on the bubble.

MORALES: Well, meanwhile, you actually confirmed with some of his reps that he was -- during all of this, while his world was imploding around him, he's here -- or he was here in New York City last week shooting " The Beaver ," the movie that is directed by Jodie Foster . So that's been going on in the busiest city in the world.

HAZLETT: In the busiest city in the world. While all these tapes were coming out, while these charges were being filed against him, he's here in New York City doing reshoots for this movie. The studio, Summit Entertainment , hasn't put a release date on that movie, so there's a question, will this film ever see the light of day ?

    MORALES: Mm-hmm.

HAZLETT: " Edge of Darkness " was Mel Gibson 's last film. It only made $43 million. That's not a lot of money for a star of Mel Gibson 's caliber.

    MORALES: No.

HAZLETT: If this hurts him further, studios are going to really take a second look at whether it's worth it to spend the money to put his projects out there.

MORALES: And Jodie Foster 's been mum on the whole thing. She's not talking about this.

HAZLETT: She's not saying a word.

MORALES: Right. And meantime, you also got confirmation over the weekend, there was a report out there, a rumor, that he might be fleeing down under. Not going back to Australia , is that right?

HAZLETT: Not going back to Australia . He moved there when he was 12. We get to keep him here in the United States . He's staying put, at least for the time being , according to his publicist.
