NATALIE MORALES reporting:
This morning on
BOBBIE'S STYLE BUZZ
, loving your loungewear. Whether we're running errands or heading to the gym, you don't have to sacrifice fashion for comfort. TODAY's style editor
Bobbie Thomas
from bobbie.com is here with some modern basics to update your laid-back look.
Bobbie
, good morning.
Ms. BOBBIE THOMAS (Today Style Editor):
Good morning.
MORALES:
This is a segment right up my alley, as you know...
Ms. THOMAS:
Yes.
MORALES:
...I love -- the minute I'm done with here, I put on my loungewear or my workout clothes, so.
Ms. THOMAS:
And I
have to -- you know, everyone at home...
MORALES:
You can be stylish about it, right?
Ms. THOMAS:
You walk around the building in your workout wear and you look really stylish.
MORALES:
Well,
thank you very much
.
Ms. THOMAS:
You do.
MORALES:
But meanwhile, you're wearing what is not really workout wear, but this is a very stylish way to wear very casual loungewear type clothes.
Ms. THOMAS:
Yeah. This is by
Torn
.
MORALES:
Yeah.
Ms. THOMAS:
And what I really like is designers are using stretchy fabrics that you would normally think are for your sweats, and sometimes...
MORALES:
Like jersey, that jersey fabric that breathes...
Ms. THOMAS:
Stretch, jersey, cotton.
MORALES:
...and doesn't wrinkle, which is great.
Ms. THOMAS:
Exactly.
And I
think sometimes when you walk into a store you think, `Really? Where would I wear that?'
MORALES:
Mm-hmm.
Ms. THOMAS:
And you can wear it with a pencil skirt to work, or on the weekend I wear this just with a, you know, pair of leggings or sweats, so it's versatile.
MORALES:
And it's very elegant. And you wouldn't even know that it's
sweat suit
material until you, like, look at it and touch it.
Ms. THOMAS:
Exactly.
MORALES:
So she looks great.
Ms. THOMAS:
I think the one thing I wanted -- I was inspired to do this segment...
MORALES:
Yeah.
Ms. THOMAS:
...because I feel like we invest so much money in our work wardrobe...
MORALES:
Right.
Ms. THOMAS:
...or special occasions.
And I
think it's really important if you're going to wear -- you should wear comfortable clothes often, but cost per wear it's really a good idea to invest in something that doesn't cost a lot...
MORALES:
Right.
Ms. THOMAS:
...that you can look more put together and not like you're digging out of the bottom drawer.
MORALES:
And has multiple uses. OK. So let's get to some of the looks that you brought for us today. And the first is a very chic look, but of course always very comfortable.
Ms. THOMAS:
Yes.
MORALES:
And let's bring out our model,
Julie
. And tell us how she's able to get this look. And you say it's all -- really all about the layers that we see here.
Ms. THOMAS:
Yeah. You know, long and loose. In the summer, it's hot, you don't want on anything too tight sometimes, but I love that it has this flow and this femininity.
MORALES:
It's gorgeous.
Ms. THOMAS:
And that kind of gives you an elegance, so even though she feel -- like you could be in pajamas curled up on the couch at home or you could go run some errands, shopping, meet your girlfriends for lunch in this. And this is kind of a nice way to think about the long loose layers.
MORALES:
And...
Ms. THOMAS:
The pants are by
So Low
and I love this company.
MORALES:
Those look amazing on her.
Ms. THOMAS:
Because if she turns to the side, you see the stitching on the side?
MORALES:
Mm-hmm.
Ms. THOMAS:
It's a -- it gives you this more flattering long...
MORALES:
A slimming look, right?
Ms. THOMAS:
...a little slimming effect. It gives you that nice tuxedo line. And, you know, it's got this nice, like I said, femininity elegance about it.
MORALES:
And this hoodie, by the way, is
H&M
?
Ms. THOMAS:
Yeah, this is...
MORALES:
That is beautiful.
Ms. THOMAS:
It's gorgeous. And it's got this great, from the side, this kind of nice angle cut.
MORALES:
And that's a lining all the way in it, right, in the inside of it?
Ms. THOMAS:
Yeah, it's just -- it's stitched in, the lining, a nice illusion effect.
MORALES:
It's absolutely gorgeous. All right.
Thank you so much
,
Julie
. You look very chic. Now of course you know I'm an avid runner and I know you brought something that really...
Ms. THOMAS:
This is for you.
MORALES:
...is going to be just for me. Let's bring out
Keshia
wearing the sporty look.
Ms. THOMAS:
Well, this is an outfit by
Under Armour
.
MORALES:
Yeah.
Ms. THOMAS:
And that's all the rage right now.
MORALES:
Huge trend, right.
Ms. THOMAS:
Hollywood
is all about their
West Coast
casual. You see stars like
Halle Berry
and
Carrie Underwood
wearing all of this. And what's great, $29 for the shorts, 19.99 for the tank, it's bright colors. And this, what she has is a
Hoodie Buddie
. How cute.
MORALES:
Oh.
Ms. THOMAS:
She can -- these are actually earbuds in the strings so you can listen to music and put...
MORALES:
Oh, that's great.
Ms. THOMAS:
It's sort of like, you know, all meshed in, the technology and the trends.
MORALES:
Oh, so you just pull it on up through the sweatshirt. I see.
Ms. THOMAS:
Yep
, she's showing it right now, she has her
Nano
.
MORALES:
OK.
Ms. THOMAS:
Keshia
's working it.
MORALES:
Yes. Very good.
Ms. THOMAS:
And then right there you can just put the earbuds without having all the strings hanging out while you run.
MORALES:
That's great. Because I have to knock the -- I knock the things out of my ears when I'm running.
Ms. THOMAS:
Yeah.
MORALES:
So very nice,
Keshia
. Looking great. Thank you.
Ms. THOMAS:
And it's all about, you know, as she walks away, just, you know, think about pop of color can make it look more fun and fresh while you are running those extra errands out between the gym.
MORALES:
Yeah, absolutely. She can go straight from the gym off to go buy some groceries.
Ms. THOMAS:
Exactly.
MORALES:
OK. Next we have
Nancy
and she's wearing a preppy
casual look
for us. Very preppy, very cute.
Ms. THOMAS:
Now
Nancy
looks great in anything that she wears...
MORALES:
Yeah.
Ms. THOMAS:
...but what I love is that if you're going to be in cut-off sweats somewhere, you know, in
Nantucket
or the
Hamptons
, wherever you're vacationing, put a button-down shirt with it.
MORALES:
Mm-hmm.
Ms. THOMAS:
And that's really going to help polish the look a little bit so you can go and have lunch with the family without feeling like you just stepped right out of bed.
MORALES:
Very cute.
Ms. THOMAS:
So it's just about the contrast. And this is
Urban Outfitters
. Very affordable. The shorts are by
Madewell
and the...
MORALES:
The
Converse All-Stars
looking great there.
Ms. THOMAS:
All -- a very classic look that's comfortable.
MORALES:
That's perfect. All right.
Thank you so much
,
Nancy
. And then trendy and comfort is our next look. Trendy really is our next category.
Ms. THOMAS:
Yeah.
MORALES:
And a lot of us don't put comfort together when it comes to trendy. And now these pants are pants that are all the rage, although I'm not sure that a lot of people know -- really know how to pull of the look, the harem pant.
Ms. THOMAS:
I get so many questions from viewers about, you know, certain trends, but the harem pant has been a big one.
MORALES:
Yeah.
Ms. THOMAS:
`How do I really pull this off if I want to try it?'
Ms. THOMAS:
These are from
H&M
, $5.
MORALES:
What?
Ms. THOMAS:
So...
MORALES:
Five bucks.
Ms. THOMAS:
Five dollars, so -- five bucks. You can...
MORALES:
It's a trend that you can afford.
Ms. THOMAS:
...you can afford to just try it.
MORALES:
Right.
Ms. THOMAS:
If not, if you don't like it, wear it to bed as pajamas.
MORALES:
Are there certain body types that should avoid -- yeah.
Ms. THOMAS:
Well, actually it's more about what you put with it. You'll notice that
Michelle
's got this cropped sort of top on.
MORALES:
Uh-huh
.
Ms. THOMAS:
What you don't want is a shirt that's so long that's going to make you just look big all over. If you show the waistband and kind of the harem pant,
believe it or not
, this is a very flattering style for most body types. If you put a pair of heels on and a blazer with this...
MORALES:
Mm-hmm.
Ms. THOMAS:
...this can go out to dinner and look kind of dressy.
MORALES:
I like it.
Ms. THOMAS:
So I think...
MORALES:
I think it looks fantastic on her, but I'm not sure it's made for me.
Ms. THOMAS:
Well, you know, I just wanted to show...
MORALES:
I need convincing.
Ms. THOMAS:
...I wanted to show you how to put it together.
MORALES:
Right.
Ms. THOMAS:
And what I liked -- for $5, if you want to experiment with new silhouettes. That's really the key to updating your basics.
MORALES:
Yeah.
Ms. THOMAS:
Because a T-shirt, you know, kind of goes -- there's always going to be a T-shirt in style, but a different cut is something to play around with.
MORALES:
Great. Let's bring all our models back out one last time. Great job, ladies. Now I just want to put my loungewear on and be comfortable.
