Why am I getting this message “For technical reasons we have moved our podcast feeds to a new web address,” instead of the podcasts?
We had to change the URLs where our podcast feeds reside. For many podcast subscribers this was a seamless transition that happened automatically in your software (iTunes, for example). But for some users, depending on the software or device you use to access our podcasts you will need to re-subscribe to or re-bookmark your podcasts of choice. If you’re now seeing the message described above, please go to our list of podcasts and subscribe anew.
Some users, using Internet connected TVs, Blu-Ray players, etc., are getting our podcasts through programming built into those devices. In most of these cases the manufacturer or provider of that device is in control of programming the content into it from our podcast feeds. If you’re using such a device, seeing the message above and your device doesn’t offer you a way to change the feed address yourself, we suggest you contact technical support for your device and tell them they’re using out-of-date addresses for our podcast feeds.

You no longer offer video podcasts in WMV format?
We're sorry, but no. We have standardized on .m4v QuickTime files for our video podcasts. They are compatible with most current platforms and devices. iTunes and Mac are not required to use .m4v files. Many free players handle them, including QuickTime Player (PC & Mac) and VLC Player (PC, Mac, Linux).
The .m4v video file is too large for my connection speed
Our podcasts are intended to be downloaded first, and then watched later. Most people find this is easiest using podcast software and subscribing to the podcasts to get downloads automatically. If you prefer to watch our video streaming directly from the website, we suggest you do so in the regular video player for each show on the site. There are also 'watch now' links from each of the shows listed on the podcast page.
How do I just download the latest podcast episode without subscribing?
From our podcasts listing page, find the podcast you're interested in. Click on its link for "manually download podcast episodes." A new page opens which will show you a link to the latest episode M4V or MP3 file. Right-click on that link to save the file to your computer. Depending on which web browser, the right-click command will be "Save target as...", "Save link as...", or "Download linked file as..." Once downloaded, you can play the file in your player of choice.
Note: The process described above is known not to work with the following web browsers: Internet Explorer version 6 or earlier; Chrome. You will see a page of code instead of a friendly link to the M4V or MP3 file.
Your podcasts don't show back episodes?
We're sorry, but most of them do not. Alternatively, much past video from each of the shows is available at all times on the website. Please navigate to the respective shows' sections of the website, or use the 'Watch now' links from our podcasts page.
What is a podcast?
Podcasts are audio or video files that are automatically delivered directly to your computer, and can be transferred to your iPod, Zune or other portable media player. You can subscribe to as many podcasts as you want — simply select the podcast below, subscribe to it in your podcast software and the audio or video will come to you automatically. If you're familiar with RSS, simply think of podcasting as RSS for audio and video.

How can I use podcasts?
First, you will need to install a “podcatcher,” podcasting client software that downloads the audio or video automatically to your computer. Once your podcatcher software is subscribed to one or more podcasts, it will check the podcast feeds for any new episodes and download them according to a schedule you set. A number of free podcatching software programs are available for download. Popular software includes iTunes, Zune, Juice, RSSRadio, iPodderX and even RSS news readers like Google Reader. Absolutely not! While many podcast users do use their portable players, you can always enjoy podcasts straight from your PC.
What audio format does msnbc.com use?
All msnbc.com audio podcasts are available in .mp3 format, and will work with virtually any audio player software or portable MP3 player such as the iPod, Zune, Creative Zen, etc. We may add other audio formats in the future, so stay tuned.
What video format does msnbc.com use?
Our video podcasts are available as .m4v files, which are h.264 QuickTime files. They are compatible with most current platforms and devices. We no longer offer WMV video files of our podcasts.
