You pretty much know what you're going to get with a Will Ferrell movie. He'll be overconfident, nerdy yet charming, and there will likely be a lot of laughs. Ferrell's not the lone star in "The Other Guys," though — he's paired with Mark Wahlberg as two detectives who idolize the macho strutting of fellow cops Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. (Opens Aug. 6.)

'Sopranos' star James Gandolfini dies at 51
"Middle Men" feels a little like a TV movie, although it would have to appear on HBO in order to get all the jiggling fake breasts onscreen. Luke Wilson plays Jack Harris, a businessman who somehow stumbles into a multi-multi-million dollar deal with two complete wackos who managed to invent the first program that allows online merchants to accept credit cards. Of course, they use it for online porn, and the Russian mob gets involved, and death, kidnapping and destruction ensues. Still, it's a fun film, and "Real World" fans will recognize Jacinda Barrett, she who let her dog Legend poop all over the London house, as Wilson's wife. (Opens Aug. 6.)

Yes, we're all incensed that White House party crasher Michaele Salahi was rewarded for her idiocy by being cast on "The Real Housewives of Washington, D.C." But now the show's launching, and I'm sure the other four women will soon provide equally good reasons to hate them soon. One of them reportedly had a fling with Britain's Prince Harry, another consults her astrological chart daily. Off to quite the start. (Premieres Aug. 5, 9 p.m., Bravo.)
Eventually, reality TV producers will make a show highlighting every single job there is. Next on the list: "Scrappers," a 10-episode series focusing on real-life competitors and friends who attempt to beat each other collecting the best scrap in town, from old cars to building materials. Could be fascinating, could be another nail in reality TV's coffin. (Premieres Aug. 3, 10 p.m., Spike TV.)
DVD
"A Prophet" earned raves for its three-hour look at life inside a French prison, and inside the head of the 19-year-old convict who clamors to the top of its power ladder. Rolling Stone calls it "a new crime classic" and Roger Ebert awarded it a full four stars. (Out on DVD Aug. 3.)
Fans of the British Royal Family are in luck: "Monarchy: The Complete Series" hits DVD this week. Royal expert Dr. David Starkey digs into the dramatic and soapy history of the men and women who've worn the crown. (Out on DVD Aug. 3.)
