Though Kate Gosselin wasn’t pleased about being portrayed as a mother “out of control” when In Touch magazine published photos of her spanking daughter Leah, the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” mom doesn’t regret her actions.

“Whether the paparazzi are there or not, I am a mother first,” Gosselin said in a statement released to Life and Style. “I love my children and when they misbehave, I discipline them as I deem appropriate for the situation.”

According to In Touch, the situation in question came about after Gosselin asked the 5-year-old to stop blowing a whistle while she was on the phone.

“(Kate) seemed to lose her temper,” a witness told the magazine. After the spanking, “(Leah) was screaming and crying. Kate just pushed her away and walked off with her coffee.”

Though police arrived at the family’s residence that same day, their presence was due to the encroaching paparrazi, not Gosselin’s actions.

Jada Pinkett Smith addresses ‘pretend marriage’ rumors
Earlier this week, Jada Pinkett Smith addressed the buzz that she and husband Will Smith married for reasons other than love. The actress spoke to Atlanta’s Q100 about the rumors that never rest.

“I’ve heard all the things — ‘their marriage is not real,’ ‘he’s gay,’ ‘she’s gay,’ ‘they swing,’” the “Hawthorne” star said with a laugh. “But at the end of the day, people have to believe what they have to believe. … But I’ll tell you what, it’s too hard to be in a pretend marriage. Life’s too short for that one.”

So, rather than pretending, Pinkett Smith insists the real story behind their marriage is a clear level of commitment.

“When we got together — when (Will) asked me to get married, I said, ‘Be clear that there is no divorce for me,’” she recalled. “‘I’m not doing that. So, in you asking me to get married, do know that you might be sleeping in one bedroom and I might be sleeping in another, but we’re going to be in the same house.’”

Dish on the fly
Slideshow: Celebrity Sightings Before “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert came out in Rolling Stone magazine, gossip blogger Perez Hilton dedicated dozens of online updates to the singer’s sexuality. Lambert believes he understands Hilton’s obsession. “I think he might have a crush on me,” Lambert told Parade magazine. “That’s what it feels like.” And just in case his suspicion is true, Lambert pointed out that the feeling isn’t mutual. “I don’t have a crush on him!” … A religious revelation led Lenny Kravitz to give up sex until marriage, but the singer-songwriter admits he struggles with his commitment and often asks for divine intervention. “It’s very hard,” Kravitz revealed in an interview with The Telegraph. “For some periods of time it’s easy, and then it’s really hard. It goes back and forth. … Right now I’m just kind of sailing and watching and waiting and trying to be patient. There are times when I’m patient and there’s times when I’m, ‘Come on, Lord, bring this for me.’” … With seven tattoos already covering various parts of her body, “Transformers” star Megan Fox recently decided to rethink her plans for more ink. “(Tattoos are) definitely addictive,” the actress said in a quote posted to StarPulse. “I don’t have any that I truly regret yet, but I’m sure I will at some point. I’m trying to refrain from going forward for that reason. I don’t want to be 40, looking at my arm in the mirror and going, ‘Oh my God — what did I do?’”
