Best bets: Johnny Depp takes aim at Dillinger

Johnny Depp stars as bank robber John Dillinger in “Public Enemies,” a new film from “Heat” director Michael Mann. Dillinger became a hero to the public during the Great Depression by stealing from the banks they felt cheated them. Talk about a timely flick. Christian Bale co-stars as the FBI agent determined to bring Dillinger to justice. (Opens July 1)

OK, so there were technically no dinosaurs during the Ice Age; your little ones can learn their history later. In the meantime, “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” brings back Manny, Sid, Scrat and the rest of the gang as they realize, when it comes to dinosaurs, size matters. And as a plus, this third film is in 3-D. (Opens July 1)

Former Band member Levon Helm goes electric for his latest, “Electric Dirt.” Slant magazine wrote, “The songs are new but have the worn familiarity of something pulled from storage, all the trilling organs and honky-tonk shuffles, made thinner and more poignant by the passage of time.” (On sale June 30)

Not as quiet as “Sky Blue Sky” and not as experimental as “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot,” Wilco’s new album is all about moving forward. Spin magazine gave “Wilco (the album)” four stars and wrote, “The band's seventh studio effort treats verse-chorus-verse basics like holy truths. The result is the rare rock album about acceptance. And it's fantastic.” (On sale June 30)

TV
As if there aren't enough scary health issues to worry about, Animal Planet has to go and debut "Monsters Inside Me," which Entertainment Weekly dubs a "scientific scarefest." The show reveals what happens when creepy parasites take root in humans. If you like "House's" struggle to diagnose his patients, but want less snark and interoffice sniping, here's your show. (Premiers July 1, 9 p.m., Animal Planet)

Everyone's office has a tech staff these days, and since they have to deal with all employees and all levels of computer knowledge, they're ripe for humor. "The IT Crowd" is a British sitcom telling some of those tales, focusing on a three-person IT team located in the dingy basement of a glamorous London company. Entertainment Weekly calls it "kick-arse comedy," while Wired says it's a "direct descendant of Fawlty Towers." You can now catch up on the second season on DVD, and maybe you'll have a little more sympathy for your own tech team. (Second season out on DVD June 30.)
