It’s amazing the difference a well-placed conservatorship makes. In just a matter of months, Britney Spears has gone from the train-wreck spotlight to landing a recurring guest spot on a hit TV show, to hitting the gym regularly and, well, just staying out of trouble all together.

As it turns out, none of that’s lost on her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, who plans to put aside their custody battle long enough to give Brit a happy Mother’s Day.

According to Life & Style magazine, Britney will spend the holiday with her boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James. And even more good maternal news could be just around the corner.

A family insider told the magazine that Kevin’s contemplating further kiddy face-time for the pop star, as soon as she files the appropriate paperwork with the court. “He hasn’t said yes yet, but he’s considering it,” the source revealed.

The tykes may not be the only ones seeing more of Brit soon. Kevin is allegedly calling Britney “his lady,” and she’s closing calls by confessing her love for him. “It’s such a huge change,” said the source. “It hasn’t been like this between them in forever.”

Nicole Kidman’s secure with Carrie Underwood
Her husband’s on the road with a lovely lady every night, and Nicole Kidman couldn’t be happier about it. The National Enquirer reports the pregnant star is thrilled Carrie Underwood keeps close quarters with rehabbed hubby Keith Urban.

Slideshow: Celebrity Sightings “It's a very difficult time for Nicole, being pregnant while Keith is away on tour,” a pal told the Enquirer. “But even though Carrie's a beautiful woman, Nicole actually calls her 'a godsend!' She says she'd be scared to death if Keith was out touring with Kenny Chesney or Tim McGraw, guys who really like to live it up — that would be a major temptation for her husband.”

It’s Carrie’s good-girl reputation that puts Nicole at ease, as her pal added, “That girl's so squeaky clean, she goes to bed an hour after their concerts!"

Former co-host slams ‘American Idol’
Long before Ryan Seacrest was a solo act, the first season of “American Idol” featured forgettable co-host Brian Dunkleman. Well, not totally forgettable, as Brian now brings home the bacon as a contestant on VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club,” but he was widely regarded as the lesser of two hosts. Speaking to Adam Carolla, Brian decided to finally clear the long-settled “Idol” air about his departure.

First of all, for the record, Brian claims he left the show before his contract was renewed (or not renewed, as the case may have been). Why leave an obvious hit in the making? Part of his problem was the man standing next to him on the “A.I.” stage. “Ryan didn't like me, I didn't like him,” he said in a portion of the interview excerpted in the Daily Herald. “We didn't get along.”

Slideshow: New ‘Idol’ king Then there was the matter of televised cruelty. “I heard them talking about 'We're going to get (season-one contestant) Jim (Verraros), we're going to nail him,' before the show. He's the sweetest kid you'll ever meet. … Simon (Cowell) shreds him, just kills him, and the kid's wellin' up, he's got tears in his eyes. He comes back to the couch, and I say to him, 'Well, hey, Paula Abdul said she liked you, what else matters?'”

But after the cut, Brian found out what mattered. “The executive producer ripped me offstage, behind stage got in my face, started screaming at me. 'What the (expletive) are you doing? You never once mentioned what Simon said to him that entire time?' Chewed me out.”

Once Brian realized what producers wanted from him, “I developed such self-hatred for being a part of it, that I checked out. I checked out. I didn't believe in what I was doing.”

Dish on the fly
Hollywood’s kiss-kiss-love-ya-babe culture dictates kind words for expecting exes, but Gwyneth Paltrow won’t play along. When OK! magazine asked the “Iron Man” star if she wanted to pass on any well wishes on to her long-since ex-fiancé and expectant papa Brad Pitt, she simply said, “No!” … What do you give the skinny-mini who has everything? Cupcakes, naturally. According to In Touch, Heidi Klum gave the gift that keeps on gaining to Victoria Beckham for her 34th birthday. One dozen of the potential Posh-plumping baked delights will be delivered every week for a full year. “It will cost Heidi around $2,000,” an insider revealed. “The card said ‘Happy Birthday — expect a dozen every Friday! Love, Heidi.’” Calorie counters at the magazine figure that makes for roughly 170,000 calories. … Growing old isn’t easy, not even on TV. Apparently Teri Hatcher has some reservations about the fine lines that come with five-year flash-forward on the upcoming season finale of “Desperate Housewives.” “She is having tricky conversations with writers and directors about how she should look five years from now,” a snitch told OK! magazine. “It seems as though they have hit a touchy subject for the ever youthful Miss Hatcher.”
