Those closest K-Fed told People that all his recent childcare kudos couldn’t be further from the truth. “He’s always been a great father," a pal claimed.

Named “Dad of the Year” by Details magazine, Kevin Federline receives a lot of praise these days for picking up the parenting slack as his embattled ex-wife/baby mama, Britney Spears, continues her emotional meltdown. But those closest K-Fed told People that all this childcare kudos couldn’t be further from the truth.

“It makes me furious when people say, ‘Oh great — he’s taking responsibility,’” one K-Fed crony told the magazine. Even before Kevin became sole legal guardian for Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1, the pal claimed “he’s always been a great father. He’s been there in every way for all of his kids.”

Another close pal, DJ Irie, told People that he agrees regarding this “all-around great dad.” “For most guys in Kevin’s situation, home would be the ultimate bachelor pad,” he pointed out. “But for Kevin, he made it all about the kids: He’s got toys everywhere. You can totally tell it’s all about the kids at home.”

Some still whisper that K-Fed’s in it only for the fame and money he receives via his Britney affiliation. But even his ex-girlfriend, the woman he dumped while she was pregnant with their second child for Britney, gives the four-time baby daddy her approval. “He’s just happy that the boys are safe,” Shar told People. “That’s his biggest thing, making sure the kids are happy.”

Oversized sunglasses may be in, but wearing the fashion must-haves at night raises suspicions  — even more so when the shades fail to fully conceal a secret. That’s the lesson for Madonna, who set tongues wagging when photogs caught her sporting a black eye and a bruised cheek.

The Queen of Pop and her jumbo shiner left London’s Claridge Hotel Tuesday just after 1 a.m., reports the Daily Mail. While her spokesperson passed on the opportunity reveal her “client’s private life” to the paper, the incident renewed rumors that Madonna’s had some “work” done.

This is the second time in two months Madonna’s attempted to hide her troubled eyes. In December, shutterbugs caught her exiting a medical building in New York, wearing the very same not-too-tinted glasses over freshly blacken peepers.

Dish on the fly When it comes to kissing, Orlando Bloom’s got nothing on Johnny Depp. So says a woman who knows. Keira Knightley shared lip locks with both leading men while filming the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy. Both are “really good kissers,” she confessed to Life & Style. But as any sane person knows, “You’d have to go for the Jack Sparrow type, wouldn’t you?” … Once again, the blogosphere’s abuzz over John Mayer and his recent blog post defending Texas-loving ex, Jessica Simpson. Apparently, everyone’s stopped blaming Jess for making her new BF, Dallas Cowboy Tony Romo, stink on the field because the post is no longer there. Too bad John missed Internet 101: In cyberspace, there are no erasers. … Dolly Parton revealed her fashion inspiration on ContactMusic.com, boasting that she's happiest when dressed like “a whore.” Giving her “cartoon” appearance much of the credit for 40 years of showbiz success, Dolly added, “No matter how much I spend or how I dress, I'm still gonna look cheap.”
