  35. Baring her soul

In December 2005, GQ named Aniston its first "Woman of the Year," and celebrated by offering this topless cover photo. GQ picked her for her poise, grace and good humor during her breakup with Brad Pitt, a sort of sweet payback for enduring a frequent portrayal as being responsible for their split. 36. Cheers from Oprah

For her first major interview after splitting from Brad Pitt in 2005, Aniston chose perhaps the most visible of stages: an appearance on Oprah. She not only told Winfrey that she was ready to start dating again, but fought back against rumors that the marriage dissolved because she didn't want children. "Do I want babies?" Jen told Oprah. "Yes I do." (George Burns / Harpo Productions via AP) Back to slideshow navigation

  38. So long, Brad

Pitt and Aniston separated in January 2005 after 4 1/2 years. 39. 'Good' to be bad

Aniston played a store clerk who has an affair with Jake Gyllenhaal's stock boy in 2002's "The Good Girl." The dark comedy was a sign to many that Aniston had serious dramatic abilities to show off on the big screen. (Fox Searchlight Pictures via Zuma ) Back to slideshow navigation
  40. Ross and Rachel

At times it seemed as though the "Friends" story line between Aniston's Rachel and David Schwimmer's Ross would spiral out of control. The arrival of Rachel's baby in 2002, with Ross at her side, marked a starting point for the two to (inevitably) end up together. It just took another couple seasons. 41. Golden girl

  42. Kissing up

As "Friends" wore on, the endless romantic tension between Aniston's Rachel and David Schwimmer's Ross Geller became a focal point. 44. Top of the A list

By the time Aniston connected with Pitt, both were household names. The then-happy couple, seen here at the Emmys in Sept. 1999, were married in 2000 after dating for more than two years. (Hector Mata / AFP - Getty Images) Back to slideshow navigation
  45. Where's your flair?

Aniston had a brief but memorable turn in 1999's "Office Space," playing a disillusioned waitress who's taken to task for not showing enough enthusiasm -- as measured by the number of buttons on her uniform. From that moment on, it was clear: She did not need 37 pieces of flair to express herself. (Twentieth Century Fox via Getty Images) Back to slideshow navigation
  46. She oughta be in pictures

Though Aniston had scored a few bit parts in movies (including 1993's "Leprechaun") her first major role came in 1997's "Til There Was You," filmed in between her "Friends" duties. (Getty Images) Back to slideshow navigation
  47. Hair and there

Did we mention the hair? As Aniston's 'do went, so went the nation's. Great for visibility as an actress, not so hot for people paying attention to the acting. (NBC via Getty Images) Back to slideshow navigation
  48. With benefits?

It all seemed so innocent back in 1996 when "Friends" picked up momentum, on its way to becoming the cornerstone of NBC's Thursday night comedy powerhouse. Before long, the whole country would know Joey, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, Ross -- and of course Rachel, played by Aniston, whose persona (and hair) would become a source of endless chatter. 49. Life before 'Friends'

"Friends" actually did not provide Jennifer Aniston with her first sitcom role. In the very short-lived TV version of "Ferris Bueller," Aniston (first row, right) tried to fill the shoes of another Jennifer (Grey) by playing Ferris' eternally grumpy sister Jeannie. It can’t be easy seeing her handsome ex-husband Brad Pitt and his stunning companion Angelina Jolie on the cover of virtually every magazine. But now, after showing off her new hot bod while on vacation in Hawaii, Jennifer Aniston is making headlines of her own. “The reaction from people seeing her in that itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny bikini did more for Jen's self-image and self-confidence than all her years of therapy put together,” a friend of Jen recently told OK! magazine.

“She didn't realize the impact it had until she was back in Los Angeles after the trip. Everywhere she went, everyone she spoke to (told her) what an absolute knockout she is and what great shape she's in. For a 38-year-old woman who has just come out of a relationship and hasn't been in front of the cameras in two years — it had her walking on air.”

And Jen has a new home to go with her new attitude, reports OK! It’s the house she purchased for $15 million last year, which was to be the new love nest with her then-boyfriend of the moment, Vince Vaughn. Just like the other massive changes in her life, Jen had the 9,000-square-foot, mid-century architectural masterpiece gutted for a complete renovation. Though she’s now moving in to the home alone, Jen’s pal told OK! that “she’s viewing it as a symbol of her independence.”

Living well is, after all, the best revenge.

Heath Ledger, back on the horse
Well, it didn’t take Heath Ledger long to rejoin the dating game. It’s only been a month since Heath split up with his “Brokeback Mountain” costar Michelle Williams. But Us Weekly reports the actor made some very public moves on supermodel Helena Christensen. Recently spotted in a New York City restaurant, the kissing couple seemed more interested in PDA than anything on the menu.

Slideshow: Celebrity Sightings From the restaurant, Heath and Helena continued their demonstrative date at the movie premiere for “Eastern Promises” (starring another ex-Ledger lover, Naomi Watts). “They started holding hands. And as the night wore on, they get cozier,” a spy told the magazine. “(Helena) was following him around — a total cougar.”

For those keeping track, Heath, at 28, is just another in a long line of younger men for the 38-year-old model. Actor Josh Hartnett, 29, and model Jamie Burke, 21, have both enjoyed her company in the past.

Dish on the fly
Michael Jackson’s kids wigged out while attending a performance of “The Lion King.” Page Six reports that a ghostly-pale Jacko and his brood seemed more costumed than the cast when they stopped backstage for a group photo, wearing wacky outfits and wigs under their baseball caps. … Paris Hilton popped up in a place you’d least expect her, reports People — a bookstore. Spotted in a Los Angeles Barnes & Noble, least-likely-to-be-literary Paris stocked up on a stack of reading material from the religious and self-help aisle. … If recent baby gift purchases are any indication, Christina Aguilera is about to bring a son into the world, reports OK! According to a magazine source, close friends of the pregnant singer were shopping for gifts that are, “all boy-themed, all blue."
