Is Kevin Federline playing the role of responsible parent?

The aspiring rapper is urging his estranged wife Britney Spears to get into rehab, according to the upcoming issue of Star.

“Kevin has tried to convince Britney to check herself into rehab from every possible angle,” a source told the tab. “First he tried threatening to take away the kids, then he tried pleading with her to take care of herself.”

K-Fed even teamed up with his former nemesis, Spears' mother Lynne, in an effort to convince the “Toxic” singer to get help. “He’s afraid she’s going to hurt herself,” says the source.

Federline is also concerned that Spears doesn’t spend enough time with their children, claims the insider. “They’re being raised by strangers,” he said. “He told Britney to get help before it’s too late.”

Could have been a ‘Dreamgirl’
Jennifer Hudson got an Oscar nomination for playing Effie White in “Dreamgirls,” — but co-star Jamie Foxx wanted another American Idol star — Fantasia — for the part, according to the upcoming issue of Vibe Vixen.

Fantasia isn’t bitter, though.

“Everyone wanted me for that role except the director,” she tells the mag. “But it wasn’t for me. I tried really hard. But I can’t even be mad. That role was for Jennifer Hudson. I feel like I was meant to win ‘American Idol.’ And I feel like J [Jennifer Hudson] was meant to play the Effie role.”

Notes from all over
Looks like Kate Hudson has a new rocker. The “Almost Famous” star split from hubby Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes, but according to Life & Style Weekly, Hudson was spotted kissing and holding hands with Nic Cester, the singer of the band Jet.  . . .Oddsmaking site Intertops.com is giving “The Departed” a 3-to-5 shot at winning this year’s Best Picture Oscar. Spending mornings at home isn’t all Katie Couric thought it would be. “It is not quite as richly fulfilling as maybe I had imagined,” the former TODAY show host and now-CBS anchor tells the February issue of Reader’s Digest. “[Her children] are rushing around. Ellie, who is 15, spends most of her morning flat-ironing her hair, so I don’t get to see her as much as I’d like.”
