The owners of this home started with one request for the architect: the color blue.

“They wanted the home to center around the whole concept of blue, a soothing color,” said Cyd Greer, the home’s listing agent with Coldwell Banker Brokers of the Valley in Saint Helena, Calif.

They chose property with a beautiful view of the valley, and hired Juan Carlos Fernandez, a modern architect who designed the Cade Winery on a hilltop in the same area.

Fernandez designed the modern home with a long, blue wall as a centerpiece. The home carries a sense of surprise, said Greer.

“He specifically designed it so you don’t really have a sense of what you’re in for … until you literally get out of your car, you walk around the corner, you go in the front door, and you are just hit by just a mind-blowing view,” Greer said. “You can see the view from one end of the house to the other.”

The home takes advantage of the area’s indoor-outdoor aesthetic with pocket-glass doors along one side, so the house dramatically opens up completely to the patio with an infinity-edge pool and fireplace.

Blending into the hillside perched above the Napa Valley, it is called the Blue Sky Home, or Casa Cielo Azul. The blue theme continues through the house with blue glass tile in the walk-in shower and azure tile in the laundry room.

Also on the property: a 670-square-foot guest cottage and a second, barn-style dwelling with two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
