Starbucks rolls out Cherry Blossom Frappuccino for one week only

Starbucks

Spring is right around the corner and Starbucks is ushering in the new season the only way it knows how — with a limited-edition drink.

The Cherry Blossom Frappuccino officially hits menus today, giving all of us an excuse to move up our annual hot-to-cold coffee switch.

Despite its name, no cherry blossoms are used in the making of the pastel pink drink — it's actually a mix of strawberries and cream blended with white chocolate sauce and green tea drizzle. The frosty beverage is then finished with whipped cream and a dusting of matcha powder.

While it's new to the U.S., the floral Frap has been a spring staple for years in Japan, where blooming cherry blossoms (or sakura) mark the arrival of warmer temps. This year, Japanese Starbucks rolled out two variations (one hot and one cold), both of which actually contain flower petals and leaves.

The stateside version may be flower-less, but it still sounds like a refreshing pick-me-up after daylight savings. And those who want to try it better hurry — the Cherry Blossom Frappuccino is only available until March 20.
