Over the past few years, we've been treated to Swedish Fish-flavored Oreos, Candy Corn-flavored Oreos and even popping Oreos with a Pop Rocks like candy.
For its newest special edition flavor, milk's favorite cookie is taking inspiration from a childhood lunchtime staple — peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
This week, a representative from Oreo confirmed to TODAY Food that PB&J Oreos are real and will be sold exclusively at Kroger grocery stores starting this Monday, August 7.
The excitement over the new flavor began just a few days ago when Instagram user Junkbanter leaked a photo of the new Oreo package that hit shelves a few days early.
Oreos version of the traditional lunchbox staple involves two vanilla wafer cookies and a mix of peanut butter and jelly crème inside. The new cookie isn't the first jelly-inspired Oreo creation. Earlier this summer, the Jelly Donut Oreo was spotted in stores.
To keep fans on their toes, Oreo has been releasing a steady stream of unusual cookie flavors that depart from the typical chocolate cookie and vanilla crème combo. Fun flavors include holiday-themed items like Peeps, or the more recent breakfast-in-a-cookie mocha Oreo, part of a Dunkin’ Donuts partnership.
But the latest nostalgia-inducing flavor, out just in time for back-to-school season, already has the Internet pretty riled up.
We literally can’t imagine what flavors they will come up with next.
