Michelle Obama dines at Giuliana Rancic's restaurant

In between her cross-country stops to promote her “Let’s Move” anti-obesity campaign, the first lady took a break Wednesday night to dine at RPM Italian, the Chicago restaurant owned by E! correspondent Giuliana Rancic and her husband, Bill.

Michelle Obama entered through the front door, surprising diners who welcomed the former Chicagoan with a round of applause, according to the restaurant's public relations firm.

“Honored to have you dine with us tonight@MichelleObama! Always nice to see you back in#Chicago," RPM later tweeted. "Hope you enjoyed everything!”

The first lady dined with a friend in a private room before paying a visit to the chef, Doug Psaltis, to thank him.

Obama arrived in Chicago after spending the day in Clinton, Miss., where she promoted new federal school lunch policies. On Thursday, she was scheduled to announce a new physical fitness initiative in schools before heading to Missouri for another stop marking the the third anniversary of her "Let's Move" campaign to prevent childhood obesity.
