It can literally be a stomach-turning experience to buy groceries only to find out a day or two later that the milk has already gone sour or the fish smells more than just fishy.

NBC News' Jeff Rossen tagged along with the Indiana State Police as they patrolled trucks that deliver food items to restaurants and grocery stores, discovering that they aren't necessarily refrigerated. Some of the temperatures inside the trucks are dangerously high -- and the ingredients they are transporting can spoil before they even reach their destination.

Have you ever bought groceries that had already gone bad? Have you gotten sick off of a restaurant dish that you suspect had spoiled ingredients? Share your horror story!
