The Christmas cheer you felt a couple weeks ago is long gone, and all you have left to show for it is a faint headache from your recent hangover and a slew of bills to pay. That’s why, according to The Daily Mail, today is the most depressing day of the year.
Like a screaming child, lull that depression it into submission with some delicious food. Try some of these meal ideas, full of ingredients that are shown to help boost your mood.
Seared salmon with a tomato, cumin, cilantro reduction
Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which studies have shown help regulate mood.
Turkey lasagna with spinach and low-fat cottage cheese
The tryptophan in turkey helps create mood-stabilizing serotonin and melatonin, the spinach is loaded with folate, and the cottage cheese is rich in vitamin D – both shown to help elevate your mood.
Winter country soup with turkey smoked sausage, chopped kale and beans
The beans have iron, which will help give you energy, the turkey gives you tryptophan and the leafy greens will give you folate.
Sardine pizza with ricotta and arugula
Get your omega-3s, along with a hit of dairy and greens.
Chopped green salad with herb dressing
Get a huge dose of spinach, along with some edamame, which also has high levels of tryptophan.
