Bush's Baked Beans issues major voluntary recall due to defective cans

Bush Brothers & Company has issued a voluntary recall that affects three varieties of their popular canned Bush's Baked Beans.

According to the recall notice, several 28-ounce cans of Bush’s Brown Sugar Hickory Baked Beans, Country Style Baked Beans and Original Baked Beans have "potentially defective side seams."

"As a fourth generation family owned business, we are guided by our values of integrity, caring, responsibility, and trust and we apologize for any inconvenience or concern this situation may cause," the company explained in the notice.

"It’s important to note that, to date, no illnesses or other adverse consequences have been reported in connection with this voluntary recall; however, we urge you to dispose of these affected products immediately even if the beans do not look or smell spoiled."

The company added, "We are working with our retailers to ensure timely removal of affected product from their warehouses and shelves."

This marks the second wide-spread recall of a summertime staple this month. On July 15, frankfurter manufacturer Sabrett recalled more than 7 million pounds of beef and pork hot dogs, as well as other sausage products, after bone fragments were found in the meat.
