Whoopi Goldberg unsure of new 'View': 'There could be six turtles at the table'

Whoopi Goldberg was the sole survivor of a mass turnover of panelists from "The View" earlier this year, but don't ask her for the scoop on who will be joining her at the table when the morning talk show returns in September.

"Here's the truth," Goldberg said of the show during a visit to TODAY Monday to talk about her new movie, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." "I don't actually know what's going on."

Only a month after show founder Barbara Walters retired from her on-camera duties, news broke in June that Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy would be exiting the program, as well. ABC announced that Rosie O'Donnell will be rejoining the show — the comedian was a panel fixture in 2006 and 2007 — but there's been no word on who will fill the other open seats. (Founding panelist Meredith Vieira recently speculated on TODAY that men might shake up the historically all-female panel.)

"There's a lot of talk; nothing has been put in cement," Goldberg said. And while she's currently reigning as "The View's" most veteran talent, she acknowledged, "I might not be the first person on (ABC's) list to talk stuff over with."

She added with a grin, "There could be six turtles at the table, and I won't know until I get there. And I'm OK with that."

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" opens in theaters on Aug. 8. "The View" returns to ABC Sept. 15.
