Who can't handle the truth? Jennifer Lawrence lies on 'Fallon'

May 16, 2014 at 11:16 AM ET

It-girl actress Jennifer Lawrence is an Oscar-winning leading lady who's mastered the art of walking away from falls and foibles with her own brand of adorable charm. She's also a liar — at least she was during a deception duel with "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon Thursday night.

In a game called of "Box of Lies," the "American Hustle" star faced off with Fallon as the two selected mystery boxes and described the contents to each other, with varying degrees of accuracy.

In the first round, Lawrence opened up a box containing a Rubik's Cube suspended in gelatin, which she related truthfully to Fallon (who wrongly accused her of lying about it). Fallon then tricked her, telling her the John Stamos "Rockin' Jesse" doll (from "Full House") he held was actually a Backstreet Boys "action figure."

"If it's not the truth, you're a sociopath," Lawrence joked after his all-too-serious delivery. "If I'm going to lose, I want to make you feel bad about it."

Indeed, she lost that round to a gleeful Fallon, and that's when she returned with a lie of her own.

After opening the last box of the game, she claimed it contained "a miniature horse on a bed of Flintstones vitamins." She even sniffed at the contents before confirming the brand of chewables.

But while Lawrence may be an (in-game) liar, she's not a good one. Fallon sniffed out the fib without delay.

What the box actually contained was an eggroll in a bird's nest — which would have probably sounded like just as much of a lie as a horse figurine nestled in children's vitamins did.

Lawrence might not have won the game, but she her adorable charm streak continues!

"The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.
