Unfortunately for “House” followers, the upcoming season of the surly doc drama is still weeks away. But thanks to a little musical moonlighting on the part of show’s star, those fans can at least satisfy themselves by watching, and more importantly listening to, another side of actor Hugh Laurie.

Laurie visited TODAY Thursday morning to showcase tunes from his recently released debut blues album, “Let Them Talk.”

“I can’t really explain it,” Laurie told host Ann Curry of his love of New Orleans-style jazz-infused blues. “(That music) has been with me my whole life. I was about 10 years old when I heard a blues song on the radio. It was like a thunderbolt — this sort of jolt of electricity. I knew that this sort of music would be with me all of my life, and so it has proved. But I can’t explain it, what it is about this music. I know I come from thousands of miles away, a whole other time, a whole other musical tradition, all kinds of traditions. It’s not my music and yet, the first time that I heard it, I knew it was for me. It just spoke to me.”

“Let Them Talk” debuted in the No. 2 spot on U.K. music charts, so whether or not Laurie really thinks of this music as his music, he can’t deny that it’s his latest success.

Catch more of the actor-turned-musician when he returns to his regular role on the season premiere of "House" on Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. ET.
