Trailer for Clint Eastwood-directed 'Jersey Boys' hits all the right notes

Frankie Valli's falsetto helped propel the Four Seasons into legendary musical status in the 1960s, and the Broadway musical based on the enduring popularity of those "Jersey Boys" has run nearly 3,500 times since 2005. In part that's because original cast member John Lloyd Young (who debuted on Broadway in "Boys") reprises the high-hitting Valli, but it's also because the movie retains a lot of the stage show's appeal. Actors regularly break the fourth wall to tell their tales (as they do on Broadway) and a few other cast members have been recruited for the film (though not the rest of the Seasons).

Also taking center stage in the film are slickly-harmonized performances of hits like "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Who Loves You."

Meanwhile, New Jersey comes across like another member of the band, lovingly photographed with retro touches that recall early seasons of "Mad Men," it's also the home of some underhanded characters — Christopher Walken (as gangster Angelo "Gyp" DeCarlo) is definitely not hanging around just to get autographs.

"Jersey Boys" opens in theaters on June 20.
