In retro-loving Hollywood, everything old is new again, and the latest classic to get a big-screen reboot is "Mad Max."

The dystopian drama, which thrilled audiences in 1979 with Mel Gibson in role of the title antihero, will explode on the big screen again next year, and the first trailer for the flick proves that while some post-apocalyptic things never change, the main man certainly does.

In "Mad Max: Fury Road," the fourth film in the chase-filled franchise, British star Tom Hardy is in the lead role as a battered Max Rockatansky, and when he's not blazing down the dusty — and at times, downright fiery — landscape, he's being branded with some important information.

A quick shot from Max's all-over makeover reveals details, including his blood type, his octane level ("hi," of course) and his "Road Warrior" status, burned right into his flesh.

But what might be even more exciting than seeing how Hardy rocks the roads as Max is catching the first glimpse of his co-star, Charlize Theron, in action as the mysterious, short-shorn new character Imperator Furiosa.

Check it all out in the clip, which made its debut at San Diego's Comic-Con on Sunday.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" hits theaters May 15, 2015.
