Despite initial reports about unhappy neighbors, "Sister Wives" husband Kody Brown insists he and his four brides -- and their combined 17 kids -- made a good move when they decided to call Las Vegas home.
In 2011, following a polygamy investigation in Lehi, Utah, the Brown clan packed up and headed to Sin City. During a panel discussion at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on Monday, Kody said the family has now found acceptance amidst diversity.
"We've found grace in Sin City, where there's a lowering of hypocrisy," he explained in a quote published in the Las Vegas Sun. "In Las Vegas, you feel like you can own who you are."
It's a far cry from what the patriarch encountered at first. Shortly after the move, he told Radar Online, "A neighbor tried to have one of my wives evicted," and that "we've had people that yell at us out of a window of a car while we're walking on the street."
Since then, things have obviously improved for the family. And Kody hopes for the same acceptance for other families.
"I believe that I was able to choose our family structure," Kody told the UNLV crowd. "It should be the right of every citizen in this country to be able to choose their family structure."
