There may not be any clear front-runners so far in season 12 of “Dancing,” but it has been pretty obvious who would be sent home early. And in week two of eliminations, it was clearly going to be Wendy Williams, which voting fans turned into a reality on Tuesday night.
The talk-show host, who overflows with personality on her talk show, was sorely missing her charm on the dance floor. Even worse, her fear kept her from moving smoothly and energetically, despite all the effort she put in. (And boy, did she try. Have you seen the picture she tweeted of her achy feet? One glimpse and you know Williams worked long hours with pro partner Tony Dovolani to perfect her moves as best as she could. Gotta give her props for trying.)
Though she improved by showing a little bit more of her pizzazz last week during a quickstep that earned her 17 points, she faltered this week with the fox-trot. “It was a dance more suited to the radio,” head judge Len Goodman told her. “It wasn’t right to watch.” The score of 15 sealed her fate. (The second lowest score was a 20, which is what both Romeo and Sugar Ray Leonard earned. And don’t even get me started on how the boxer butchered my favorite dance, the paso doble.)
Even with the elimination, Williams managed to keep her humor intact. “I want to thank ... Tony for teaching me how to dance,” she said after the results were announced. “Despite stereotypes, this is one black girl who can’t even do the running man.”
As any “Dancing” fan knows, the elimination show isn’t always all gloom and doom. It’s usually just an hour of filler! This week there was an extra bit of fun to fill out the episode. Producers gave the contestants video cameras to capture some behind-the-scenes shenanigans, and some of the celebs certainly delivered:
So what do you think? Now that both Mike Catherwood and Williams are gone, who’s next? Personally, I’m hoping for Sugar Ray. Anyone who fails to deliver a powerful paso automatically gets my vote to go.
By the way, don’t forget to join me and Ree Hines for our weekly “Dancing” live chat on Tuesday, April 12, at 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET to gab about the week’s dances!
