Sheldon finally kisses Amy on 'Big Bang Theory'

Feb. 7, 2014 at 10:03 AM ET

Happy Valentine's Day, Amy Farrah Fowler! Just when "The Big Bang Theory" neurobiologist thought any chance of romance with her boyfriend was over, Sheldon Cooper kissed her on the lips.

To recap: Sheldon. Kissed. Amy. On. The. Lips.

If anything warrants a "squee," this is it!

On "The Locomotive Manipulation," Sheldon not only started the smooch, but like "The Little Engine That Could," he kept on going.

In fact, he enjoyed the PDA (they were in a Pullman dining car) so much he clasped Amy's waist and drew her even closer. (Squeeee!)

It was the couple's most intimate moment to date, unless you count the spanking from a year ago, which — as exciting as it was for Amy — Sheldon viewed as corporal punishment. And it may have set the wheels in motion (the train puns are just beginning, people) for the consummation devoutly to be wished by millions of "Big Bang" fans.

Up until the instant they locked lips, ShAmy's relationship was on the verge of derailing. When Amy suggested — during their Annual State of the Relationship Summit — that they celebrate Valentine's Day by joining Howard and Bernadette on a romantic B&B getaway, Sheldon responded, "I hate every word in that sentence."

But fans loved the close encounter and what it could mean for the theoretical physicist.

The kiss did something other than prove a point to Amy: Sheldon discovered the true meaning of romance — and desire. It's a huge development for the selfish scientist who previously had zero interest in physical intimacy ... or much human contact at all. (Eew, germs!)

Of course, Sheldon buried the lead when he recapped the evening for Leonard: "I made a new friend who likes trains as much as I do, I kissed Amy on the lips, and the conductor played his banjo for me."

When his roommate pressed for more details, Sheldon added, "Amy's lips tasted like the brownie we had for dessert."

Here's hoping he goes back for more.
