It's been a back-and-forth season for Ruben Studdard on "The Biggest Loser," and after Tuesday night's weigh-in, he's back again — back home.

The former "American Idol" winner was first sent packing in week four, when a 5-pound loss just wasn't enough to keep him in the game. A caffeine pill controversy involving other players (and trainer Jillian Michaels) allowed him to return to the competition, but only big results on the scale could keep him there.

This time the scale revealed Ruben had only lost 2 pounds, which put him below the dreaded red line and out the door.

Ruben's trainer, Dolvett Quince, admitted he was "shocked and disappointed," but he urged the singer known as the Velvet Teddy Bear to "shock the world" with his ultimate transformation.

"When you see me on the finale, trust me, I'm going to be the baddest, finest, freshest person in the theater," Ruben vowed. "Believe that."

And he's already well on his way. He started the competition at 462 pounds, dropped 70 on the show, and when he spoke to TODAY last month, he revealed that his total loss at that time was 104 pounds.

Ruben is out of the running for the $250,000 grand prize, but he's still eligible for the at-home "Biggest Loser" title — and the $100,000 that comes with it.

"America, the next time you see me, I'll still be your Velvet Teddy Bear, but without all the stuffing," he promised.

"The Biggest Loser" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
