'River Monsters' angler introduces Kim Kardashian to underwater predators

April 6, 2012 at 10:56 AM ET

Jeremy Wade, known to Animal Planet viewers as the British biologist and extreme angler who seeks out underwater predators in "River Monsters," visited TODAY Friday morning to talk about his specialty and to share a close encounter with a few frightening fish with the TODAY gang and guest Kim Kardashian.

But before he got around to the hands-on fun, Wade showed NBC News correspondent Janet Shamlian a few tricks of the trade.

After that, it was time to reach in to tanks filled with pint-sized predators. But don't let their size fool you! Wade warned Kardashian away from the electric eel's tank. Fearing a pinhole in her rubber glove could expose her to up to 500 volts of electricity, he suggested she move on to the relatively friendlier red tail catfish.

"River Monsters," now in its fourth season, airs Sunday nights at 10 p.m. ET on Animal Planet.
