A courtside selfie gone wrong is turning into a successful charitable gesture thanks to Rihanna.
The singer was posing with Steve Soboroff, president of the Los Angeles Police Commission, at the Los Angeles Clippers NBA Playoff game last Friday when she dropped and cracked his phone. In the days since, Soboroff has been busy on Twitter.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Soboroff had asked the singer to pose for a picture because he thought it would help boost morale after a series of tragic deaths within the LAPD, which has lost five officers in the last two months.
The two saw each other again at Sunday's Clippers game, and Soboroff told Rihanna that he planned to auction the phone to raise money for police cadets from underprivileged backgrounds. Rihanna signed the back of his phone, "Sorry! I (heart) LAPD. Rihanna."
Rihanna tweeted her apology out to her 35 million followers on Monday and pledged $25,000 to help the L.A. Police Commission's cause for cadets and the families of fallen officers.
On Wednesday the bidding on the phone on eBay had passed $10,000.
